So, in addition to a 0 / month premium...

So, in addition to a $150 / month premium on a $4800 deductible EPO with a $6550 out of pocket limit, I now get to pay a $789 Obamacare penalty for 2017.

You see, “taking” my two year old off my employer plan when my employer’s open enrollment period came up, in order to sign him up for private insurance, is not the same as him “losing” coverage; he was therefore not eligible to sign up for Obamacare, was denied twice (one application and one appeal), and had to wait another three months for Obamacare’s open enrollment period to begin in order to sign up, leaving him, you guessed it, non-compliant.

Of course, not being an irresponsible moron, during this time I signed him up for short term health insurance which covered medical and accidents, but which wasn’t Obamacare compliant as it didn’t cover acupuncture, mental illness, and maternity; you know those toddlers and their mental illnesses.

So I get to be penalized for not signing him up for Obamacare, while attempting to sign him up for Obamacare and being denied, in order to incentivize me to sign him up for Obamacare in the future. ?

Thanks everyone; you know who you are. ?
