Published by The Lancet, lockdowns and testing not associated with COVID-19 mortality per million.
“Rapid border closures, full lockdowns, and wide-spread testing were not associated with COVID-19 mortality per million people.”
Higher obesity, higher median age, longer time to border closure, increased income inequality, and worse global health security had a negative effect on caseloads, mortality, or increased time to recovery.
“Increasing COVID-19 caseloads were associated with countries with higher obesity, median population age, and longer time to border closures from the first reported case.”
“Increased mortality per million was significantly associated with higher obesity prevalence and per capita gross domestic product (GDP).”
“Reduced income dispersion reduced mortality and the number of critical cases.”
“Full lockdowns and reduced country vulnerability to biological threats (i.e. high scores on the global health security scale for risk environment) were significantly associated with increased patient recovery rates.”
A country level analysis measuring the impact of government actions, country preparedness and socioeconomic factors on COVID-19 mortality and related health outcomes
In this exploratory analysis, low levels of national preparedness, scale of testing and population characteristics were associated with increased national case load and overall mortality.

67% of Trump voters are voting for him because they like him, while only 30% of Biden voters are voting for him because they like him.
49% of Biden voters are voting for him to oppose Trump, while only 17% of Trump voters are voting for him to oppose Biden.
This is why Biden doesn’t leave his basement. No one actually cares to hear him speak, not Trump voters, nor Biden voters, so with no upside and all downside, he’s being advised to follow the Clinton strategy of staying out of the spotlight, which ultimately caused her to lose because Trump the comedian, performer, and entertainer rose to the occasion.
There’s nothing for Biden to do here, it’s Trump’s to win or lose.
For Trump to win, he’ll have to entertain, which I’m sure he knows, so maybe we’ll soon be entertained.

Mask wearing is good optics and smart politics. Trump supporters who want Trump to win, even if they’re against masks, should support him on masks. It takes one of the most effective virtue signals Democrats have away from them.

COVID-19 STRESS TEST – 2020-07-20
Countries from previous set, inc. New York, and California. Included is the 2020-07-07 stress test CFR, as well as the difference.
US case-fatality continues to decline, down to 3.64% from 4.33%. The US has put some distance between it and Germany, and is coming up on Austria. With some exceptions, European case-fatality numbers continue to be poor, as are deaths per capita numbers.
One comment I’d like to add. If there is some country’s data that you don’t trust because reasons, then just throw it out. I did for China.

While I agree Trump should get his supporters to wear masks, it’s not the Trump supporters driving the rise in cases.
In Alabama, blacks make up 27% of the population and 44% of cases, whites make up 68% of the population and 47% of cases. In California, hispanics make up 39% of the population and 56% of cases, whites make up 38% of the population and 18% of cases.
Unlocking wasn’t followed by rising cases. The rise in cases followed the Floyd protests, where many (well placed photo ops aside) don’t wear masks.
So yes, Trump should get his supporters to wear masks, but to see real change, Democrats will need to stop making exceptions and excuses for their supporters, get them to wear masks, to stop protesting, and to stay at home.

Case spike in super-liberal San Francisco after Floyd protests, clearly not a hotbed of Trump supporters.

Case spikes across the country with varying levels of Trump supporters, and different economic reopening regimes, all following common denominator Floyd protests.
