Overlaying the Afghan ethnicities map over the battle map, it’s clear what happened. The Uzbeks decided to join the Taliban. Is it a head fake by Dostum? Possibly, and time will tell.

Afghanistan isn’t known for record keeping, so this took some digging, but from I’ve been able to gather, the following districts are mentioned as falling to the Taliban over the past month.

Taliban are finding military vehicles everywhere they go, they’ll run out of drivers at this pace. ANA still controls the skies for now, but Taliban control the ground.

It’s mostly been a small arms and IED conflict, but with Taliban picking up heavier weapons and associated munitions left behind by US and ANA withdrawal, they’ll soon be able to form artillery units.
There was an opportunity for peace, but Ghani held out for a Biden bailout.
Which didn’t come to fruition, adding yet another group of people to the list of people who feel betrayed by Biden.
