Herrera-Beutler nearly escaped a loss because St. John, who ran as a MAGA candidate and said she would drop out if Trump endorsed Kent, remained in the race and attempted to split the vote with Kent. That strategy failed, and Herrera-Beutler was defeated by Trump endorsed GOP challenger Kent after a close primary race.
Seven down, two escaped, one to go.
St. John came very close to splitting the vote, but Kent pulled through. NY Times still hasn’t called the race for Kent yet, but Herrera-Beutler already conceded.

By comparison, she won her 2020 primary by 20 points, 58%-38%.
